At age 14, bloom won a scholarship to take art classes at the mfa and also studied art at the west end settlement house with painter howard k. A grand spring tradition, art in bloom presents floral interpretations of works in the museum of fine arts collection.

After living in the boston area for 23 years, i finally managed to see the ‘art in bloom’ exhibit at the mfa.

I had an hour and it was really packed, but i saw a few and marveled over a them and took a couple of pictures… For more than 40 years, this event has paired artwork from the collections with floral interpretations from new england garden clubs. ‘art in bloom’ brings local florists from garden clubs and professionals in to make an arrangement inspired by a particular piece of art.

Wollaston garden club members ruth griffin and jo costello created an arrangement for the american wing. Designs are created by professional florists, talented hobbyists, and members of the stuart society. Presented by a team of art and floral guides, each video features 9 works from the mfa collection alongside the floral designs that the art inspired.

A more reliable celebration of spring was indoors, at the museum of fine arts boston, where the museum’s 42nd annual art in bloom brought floral magic to works of art throughout the museum from april 28 to april 30. We’ll be saluting the spring virtually this year, and we look forward to delivering a weekend of delight and discovery as we showcase fine art and floral design for the 45th year.
